I am Carrie Nichols and I am the Children’s Ministry Director here at Aldersgate UMC. I hope that I am becoming a familiar face to all of you but if not, stop by the Children’s Check-In desk any Sunday that you have an extra minute and say hello! My family and I have only been attending Aldersgate UMC for about two years now and I have only been Children’s Ministry Director since February so I still consider myself relatively new to the church community. It is a goal of mine to become more familiar with everyone!
I was born and raised in Garden City, Missouri, on a dairy farm J I loved it and there is still a bit of the country left in my soul. I attended a TINY Christian high school, graduating in a class of only FOUR! I attended William Woods University where I graduated with degrees in both Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Sciences, and American Sign Language Interpreting. After graduating, I moved to Independence, MO where I worked full time as a freelance American Sign Language Interpreter while completing my Master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Instructional Strategies at UMKC.
Only six short months after I moved to Independence, I reconnected with Adam Nichols (my now-husband). We had known each other forever, as he grew up in Garden City as well (even worked for my dad during summers through high school), but we had lost touch during our college years. We reconnected through Facebook (score one for social media!) when he saw that I was back in the KC area. We were married not long after we reconnected and recently celebrated six amazing years of marriage. We now live in Lee’s Summit with our two precious daughters, Audrey (4), and Lyla (2). They are my joy in life and I am blessed enough to be able to say at home with them full time.
Besides my work in the Children’s Ministry, I spend most of my time engaging with my girls. You can typically find us playing Doc McStuffins, doctoring all of our stuffed animals and Barbies, while dressed in princess dresses and tiaras…and sometimes fairy wings as well. We also love to bake together (mostly during football season for Adam’s high school players), and the girls help me keep our garden in check.
I hope this piece has given everyone a bit of insight into my world. If there is anything else that you would like to know about me, don’t hesitate to ask!
